2015 Saw More Veteran Hiring than Any Other Post-9/11 Year
National unemployment has been on a fairly steady decline over the last twelve months, which is one healthy indicator of the U.S. economy. Not only are Americans finding places to work, but more specifically, so are our veterans. U.S. military veterans display tangible attributes like dedication, commitment, and loyalty which are all necessary for achieving mission success, and many employers seem to have taken this to heart.
According to this Military Times article, "The annual unemployment rate for the latest generation of veterans in 2015 was the lowest ever recorded — by far, government statistics indicate. Post-9/11 veterans charted an average unemployment rate of 5.8 percent for the year, according to a Bureau of Labor Statistics report released today, down significantly from the 7.2 percent posted last year."
Hiring veterans is not just something we say we are committed to at St. Michael’s, but rather we let our actions speak for themselves. As evidence, roughly 20% of our entire workforce is a U.S. military veteran, reservist, or military spouse. We don’t simply hire veterans for the sake of doing so; we hire industry professionals who also are committed to our country. St. Michael’s actively recruits spouses of active duty service members, and has been awarded the Patriot Award by the Department of Defense (DoD) for outstanding support to our military reservist employees. A commitment to supporting veterans and military families is not just something we say, it’s something we do!
